Saul Stokes

If you missed Saul's sets at Chuck van Zyl's Gathering series, or the Fringe Fest, or last Winter
at the Gate to Moonbase Alpha here is your chance for what is likely to be the last perfomance of
the artist in Philadelphia. Mr. Stokes, electronic music artist and Instrument creator, has made
Philadelphia his home for about two years but come December he will be moving to Portland, Oregon,
also the home of space music curators, Hypnos Records. Hypnos Records has just released his third
album, "Outfolding". Saul's sound will appeal to ambienteers, spacers, and droners alike.
Please check out his sound at his website:

Edited from the Star's End page:
Performing on custom designed, hand built synthesizers and modern sampling technology, Hypnos
recording artist Saul Stokes creates a sonic landscape somewhere between the floating textures of
Vintage Spacemusic and the focused rhythms of Modern Ambient.
With two albums to his credit and represented on several compilations,
Saul Stokes is already recognised as one of the leading voices in
modern Electronic Music. Described as "fresh and inventive", Saul
Stokes brings together elements of Space, Ambient, Industrial and Intelligent-Techno,
forging a sound all his own.
Octorock and Fingernail
Philadelphia sound occultist Eric Sherman and I met at WKDU back when he and Adam were performing
together as Magnet-F. This was a short time after the Consortium's first philly music event hosted
at the Astrocade called Stupid Robot. Boy, was I upset to learn after the fact of their excellent
project. Here were two young electronic musicians who have been influenced by the best of the
ambient and noise flooding out of rephlex records since Aphex Twin's classic "Ambient Works
vol. 2"
Releasing comps and solo albums as Octorock and Fingernail, Eric and Adam, quickly moved into the
lively center of Philly's young electronic clique hovering about the Fuzzybox label. Darla Records
picked up Adam's "So, backwards" to acclaim in 1998, a remix album by followed last year
called "Versions". http://simpletone.com/pacman/artists/fingernail/adam_diangelo.htm
Meanwhile, Eric, founder of Doubtful productions ( http://www.doubtful.com ) was working on an act in six parts
called "k'ta". Initially released in 1999, it tells the 6 second tale of the fleeting
life of an arcade monster, an Octorock's life and death as an energy blast approaches and the
engulfs it. At least that's what I think of when I listen to it. Get yourself a copy and hear for
yourself. Inzec Records, affiliated with Rephlex, was impressed and is currently distributing
"k'ta".
Which brings us to...
Alphatronic and Bigeneric
On their first Inzec Records Autumn tour having traveled all the way from Switzerland. see http://www.doubtful.com/inzec/
CACOPHONY PARTY

them together. It'll be fun!
FILM

weird 16mm film and we'll probably project it!
FOOD 'n DRINKS
Comestibles supplied by the Comet Coffeehouse (41st btw Walnut & Chestnut). Hot Cider, Iced
Ginger Tea, and assorted pastries will be FREE. You should feinitely bring your own protein food

ALL THIS IS FREE?
The Gate to MoonBase Alpha performance series is funded with a budget from the University of
Pennsylvania and made possible by the volunteer
contributions of the Andrew Zitcer and the Foundation Crew. That means due to the low overhead all
artists are paid and there is absolutely no cover! If you wish, donations can be made to the
Consortium or the Foundation to support future events. We will also be accepting donations to the
Ralph Nader for President campaign.
