The
Philadelphia Ambient Consortium has been organizing performances for close
to three years now. Our first show was the epic Stupid
Robot spectacle at the Astrocade featuring a multitude of bands and
djs from all over the map of Philadelphia ambient and intelligent electronic
music. A year later, we organized the Sonic
Logos extravaganza at the First Unitarian Church. Since October 1999
we've been putting on a show almost every month with funding and support
from the University of Pennsylvania.
This funding is due in part
to the exciting excavations taking place underneath and nearby the Rotunda.
The so-called gate or portal to "moonbase alpha" was in fact a working
port of exit to the ill fated mining colony on Phobos. The gate to "moonbase
bravo," on Deimos was never uncovered, but we are hopeful that clues to the
second gate will be unearthed at our excavation.
The gate, while not operational,
is thought to have responded to certain sonic resonances which triggered
the appropriate trans-dimensional jaunting mechanism as outlined in Bester
(1956). The University humours us musicians by granting us one night a
month to experiment within the radius of the Gate, and see if we can trigger
the jaunt ourselves. It hasn't happened yet but its been entertaining and
a positive experience for everyone, the exoarchaelogists, day-laborers,
engineers, and of course, us artists. Please stop by to our next Gate to
Moonbase Alpha performance!
