Group members: BILWA and ALEX: progamming, keyboards, and turntables.

Artist description: The music spans everything from straight-up instrumental hip-hop to abstract sound art. The tracks posted here are hoopty heaven's most beat-oriented, dancefloor-friendly work, and are influenced by the eclectic and ecstatic vibe of early-nineties warehouse parites. The music transcends simple dance beats, as it is rhythmically dynamic and layered with ambient sounds from our more experimental influences. Each composition is approached from a unique angle, avoiding formula, thus allowing each track to take a new direction.

Music style: Electronic Sound Collage Musical influences: Detroit Techno, Old-School Hip Hop, Acid House, Dub

Similar Artists: Lee Perry, Mira Callix, DJ Shadow, Derrick May, Autechre, Ninja Tune Artists

Artist history: Bilwa and Alex have been making music together since 1998. The project started as an experiment in lo fi electronic sound, using minimal equipment. The name Hoopty Heaven comes from a local junked car lot which resembled their studio. The collaboration led to numerous gigs at art openings, clubs, and parties. They have recorded three albums, won Brainsoap.com's best unsigned band contest, and put together a not-so-hoopty studio. They are currently gigging and recording new material, and exploring new aesthetic possibilities.
